8-11-02: Update, The #TMK , #MortalKombat , #MKAlliance IRC Member JRF Submited Questions Dan 'Toasty' Forden and got a reply, an interesting read, Thanks JRF!:

1. How has creating the music for Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance Differed from your experiences with past Mortal Kombat games?
Since we developed it for the home consoles and not for arcade hardware, I was able to just think about writing music instead of worrying about how efficiently I could write a tune so that it took up the least amount of sound memory. I was able to put more energy into creating sounds and textures that evolved over time instead of making sure everything was short and crisp. Working in stereo is also nice since you can create a much richer sound field. I also got help from some of the Midway sound guys. Rich Carle wrote two fighting tunes - Quan Chi's Fortress and the Lava Shrine are his, as well as the music snippets in Test your Sight and one of the map tunes heard between Konquest missions. The woman singing at the end of Test your Sight is from a sample disk of Chinese opera - definitely a new and interesting texture. Vince Pontarelli (Cruisin', Arctic Thunder) wrote the music for the Ice Palace background and contributed sound effects for Mavado's character. Eric Huffman wrote two of the story ending background tunes used in many of the character's endings. He also contributed miscellaneous sound effects for the opening FMV as well as the fatality sound effects for Reptile, Cyrax and Raiden.

2. Out of all the tracks you have done for MK games, which one is your Favorite? Least favorite?
Dan Forden: It's hard to remember all of them - I have personal favorites and dislikes in every game ... my favorite in MKDA is probably the Ship - the pseudo-metal tune ... don't remember which one is my least favorite (:>)

3. What kind of feel does the music in MKDA have? Is it more like the Earlier MK games or the later MK games?
Dan Forden: I think MKDA has a more consistently evil feel throughout - the tempos are overall a bit slower and the tunes seem heavier ... the style leans more toward evolving sonic textures than toward recognizable melodies ... I can't tell if it's more like the earlier or later MK games ... I view the music as a constant evolution so I guess I'd say it's closer to the later ones than the early ones ...

4. What is the difference between making the music for the fighting MK? Games and the Mythologies games? Are there different steps you take to? Create the music to give each respective game its own feel or what?
Dan Forden: Big difference - the Mythologies games had to be "rendered" in MIDI on the PSX which meant I had to figure out what samples/instruments I wanted to use, sample them appropriately and load them into the very limited memory on the PSX. It was fun in the sense that it was a challenge to try to extract what music I could out of a limited set of sounds, but I don't think the sound quality compares with what I'm able to do for the other games. In the arcade games and MKDA (with the exception of MK1) I was able to utilize a huge palette of sounds and instruments to compose the music. Another difference is that Mythologies, being more of an adventure game, needed a large amount of music that was a notch or two down in intensity from the typical fight music you might hear in the fighting games. Since the action plays out over a longer period of time, the music has to remain more in the background and be less obtrusive. Occasionally you would have to punch it up for boss fights, but, for the most part, it needed a more subdued treatment.

5. After a no-show in MK4, is there a chance we might see the return Of your mug popping out from the corner this time around with your Trademark "Toasty!!" tagline?
Dan Forden: Every once in a while, you might hear it in the Test your Might crowd ...

10-10-02: Wow! I have returned from holidays, and while i was away there was 11 MK:DA updates!

3 new Arena's show at the Tokyo Game Show IGN Posted this Article about 3 new MK:DA Stages:
"The first looks like a haunted harbor of sorts. Dilapidated pirate ships bob in the ocean behind you as the fight rages on. The second new arena we saw was a sort of circular gondola floating down the river (reminiscent of certain stages in Soul Calibur). As you fight, oarsmen row the platform of death along the water. The final new arena is a vortex of sorts. You battle on a stone platform as a huge funnel cloud in the background sucks everything into itself. Swirling debris was constantly flowing into the tornado, although the fighters' footing didn't seem to be affected by the heavy winds."

New MK:DA Character, Nitara! Nitara joins the MK:DA Warriors, her story is that she is a female Vampire with wings from outworld. She has no Alliance to anyone.

MK3 Movie looks to be set forth in motion! UGO Recently conducted and interview with Joshua Wexler associate producer and Writer of Mortal Kombat Annihilation, he has also been assosiated with Mortal Kombat + Mortal Kombat: The Journey Begins. In this interview he is asked about the MK3 movie, he annouces that it is being produced: "we're going to reinvent the fighting genre. You're going to see fights like you've never seen before" Excellent News!

MK:DA Poster in PSM (Newstand Mag's only) If you got the latest Issue of PSM from the newsstands, you would of got an MKDA poster. I hear they are pretty sweet.

MK:DA / WWE Kompetition + New Screenies. WWE are having a competition to play MKDA with a Celebrity Wrestler if you win there Comp. Also there will be a MKDA Commercial at Theatres it will feature Quan Chi + Scorpion fighting. It is in R-Rated Screenings of movies and will run until November 21st, 2002.

5-07-02: according to a Press release by Midway, Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance has been Delayed. The maximum wait on this much antisipated title would be December US Release Date. Witch would mean Australia would get it about March. Bad news but im sure if for the best.

Game Informer Magazine released some drawings of returning and new MK:DA warriors in it's April edition. Old characters that are mentioned are Sub-Zero(drawing), Rayden(drawing), Kitana(Drawing), Cyrax, Scorpion Shang Tsung, Quan Chi and Jax Briggs.

New characters are:
Blind Kenshi: A with a red bandage blind foulded male warrior who appears to be blind and might be wearing the Russian sign on his clothes.
Storyline: Blind kenshi was pursuing lost ancestral knowledge within a labyrinth of catacombs. He soon discovers the forbidden well of souls. In peering into its depths he sees a horde of supernatural spirits flowing into the outworld. Unable to cope with the vision,his mortal form is forever blinded and his spirtual self is stripped of its innocence. Lost and alone,The Kenshi wanders the depths of the forbidden place.

Malvado: A Mad Max styled male warrior.

Drahmin: A very muscled black warriors with a green african style mask in his face. Storyline: The Legend of the Oni-Tormentor. Once a ruthless and powerful warlord, Drahmin fell from the eye's of mortal man when he was banished to the netherrealm. It is here that abysmal powers began to redesign the fallen ruler into an oni-demon feared and famed throughout the empires of the outworld. Drahmin's sentence to the depths of the netherealm would last for 500 years, his body and sanity ravaged by the unspeakable tortures inflicted upon him. The end product of these hideous machinations would be a being fueled by an unquenchable insane fury. Unfocused with his murderous insanity, Drahmin is a monstrously fierce opponent. I is when he dons his artifact mask; The face of kun-lo, that he can center his power into a precise lethal fighting style that has made him into the legendary Oni-Tormentor.

Some other snippets from the magazine: "Boon is keeping the project under tight wraps, but he granted us the world exclusive on its unveiling. Expect to be blow away. Expect to be showered in blood like never before. Expect to have your perception of fighting games to be forever changed. Mortal Kombat is Back and looking better than you could ever imagine. Let the fatalities begin"

"Visible damage will be shown on the characters. You may bruise a face, cut a lip, or even knock off a piece of clothing."

The magazine says there is now a realistic tone to the weapons system, if you jab someone with a sword, the other character will begin to bleed and their life meter will slowly drain. If you continue to chop away you really wont have to do a fatality because they are already a bloody mess! With the real time damage that by the end of the fight you may not recognize the combatants. It also says there will be 20-24 playable characters!

There is a tidbit about one of scorpions fatalities, it says it involves scorpions spear and the opponents head! It says that all fatalities are completely original!
